Egypt's Defence Minister Mohamed Zaki inspected on Sunday the counterterrorism centre in Cairo for the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), which has been established based on the recommendations of the 2016 CEN-SAD meetings in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh.
Zaki heard a detailed explanation about the centre's facilities, which is constructed on 61,900 m2 and equipped with the latest advanced equipment and technologies.
Egypt's Armed Forces finished setting up the counterterrorism centre last June.
The centre is aimed at improving counterterrorism cooperation and bolstering security, economic and political ties between member countries.
The Community of Sahel-Saharan States was established in 2018 and aims to bolster regional security, economic cooperation and sustainable development within member states.
Member states agreed to carry out regular counterterrorism exercises during their latest summit in 2017 in the Ivory Coast.
