Khayal El-Meata exhibition by Last Wahda art group
An exhibition by El-Laqta El-Wahda (The Single Shot) art group titled Khayal El-Meata (Scarecrow) will open at Salah Taher Hall at the Opera House, on 20 December.
The six-day event marks the 34th exhibition by the group, which was formed in 2002 under the guidance of graphics professor Abdelaziz El-Gindy.
El-Laqta El-Wahda is a group of young artists who meet every Friday to draw at one of Cairo’s districts. The idea of “the single shot” is based on the choice of a particular scene that all the participants turn into a painting in a medium of their choice.
Starting off with just 15 members, the group is now comprised of 60 members.
They hold two exhibitions every year, one in May and the other in December, to showcase the works of all the artists.
In this latest exhibition, the group takes a scene of a scarecrow, a familiar icon on Egypt’s agricultural lands, which they visited. They present the subject through different mediums, from collage to painting.
