Egypt cigarette-maker sees profits soar a third in last 6 months

Eastern Company reports gains of LE371 million for the first half of its 2011-12 financial year

Egypt's Eastern Company saw net profits of LE371 million (US$61.4m) in the second half of 2011, up 31.6 per cent on the same period the year before, the cigarette monopoly announced to the stock exchange on Monday.

The cigarette maker's financial year begins on 1 July.
 
Eastern Company made net profits of LE253.5 million ($41.97m) between July and December in 2010, its statement to the Bourse added.
