An Egyptian national working in Saudi Arabia has died from the coronavirus, Egypt’s Ministry of Manpower said on Sunday, bringing the total number of Egyptian deaths in the kingdom to at least three.

Hossam Ismail Darwish was buried in Buraydah, a city in the central Al-Qassim region, the ministry said. His wife, a professor at Qassim University, and his daughter have tested positive for the virus and are currently put in quarantine.

At least three Egyptian expatriates have died in Saudi Arabia because of the global pandemic, according to a tally of the ministry’s figures.

The Gulf kingdom is home to the largest number of Egyptian expatriates, with around three million people making up almost half of Egyptians living abroad, according to the country’s official statistics agency.

Saudi Arabia has recorded 4,033 Coronavirus cases including 52 fatalities and 720 recoveries.

Egypt, meanwhile, has 1,939 infections and 146 deaths.
