Nigeria sacked their longest-serving boss, German Gernot Rohr, after five years in charge, with Augustine Eguavoen named as an interim coach.
Rohr was appointed as Nigeria's coach in August 2016. He led the Super Eagles to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where they bowed out at the group stage after finishing third in their group behind Argentina and leaders Croatia.
They also finished third under his guidance at the 2019 Nations Cup after defeating Tunisia in the third-place playoff.
Rohr was shown the door even though Nigeria reached the final two-legged playoff of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers after finishing on top of their group with 13 points, two ahead of Cape Verde.
"The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr Rohr has come to an end. We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria," Mohammed Sanusi, the general secretary of the Nigerian Football Federation, said in a statement.
Sudan also fired French coach Hubert Velud following a poor run at the ongoing FIFA Arab Cup, which saw the team lose all three of their group-stage games, having conceded 10 goals while failing to score any.
They also finished at the bottom of their World Cup qualifying group after only bagging three points from six games.
Nigeria and Sudan were drawn with Egypt in Group of the Nations Cup. The group also includes Guinea-Bissau.
The tournament will take place from 9 January to 6 February in Cameroon.
