Ahly are scheduled to host Mamelodi Sundowns in the third round of the Group A games of the CAF Champions League on Friday.
“We are in talks with the CAF and security officials to allow fans to attend the game against Sundowns in the CAF Champions League,” Shalaby told a television programme on Sunday.
In October, Egypt allowed a partial return of audiences to attend the Egyptian Premier League games after a nine-year ban. However, during these years, Egypt allowed the CAF-mandated minimum of 5,000 fans for continental games played at home.
Ahly, who still have a game in hand against Sudan’s Al-Merrikh, are in second place within Group A with only one point.
Mamelodi Sundowns currently lead the group with four points after claiming a victory over Al-Hilal in the 1st round and being held to a draw against Al-Merrikh in the 2nd round.
The Cairo giants are also preparing to face Maqassa in the 10th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League on Tuesday.
The Red Devils are currently playing second fiddle in the domestic league with 19 points after playing seven games so far this season, one point behind leaders Pyramids FC, who played one game more.
