The authority confirms its “commitment to all decisions taken on 3 July 2022 regarding the relation with the occupying state (Israel), including maintaining complete cessation of security coordination,” the statement said.
In the statement, the authority affirmed the Palestinian people’s “legitimate right to defend themselves,” stressing that the mission of the Palestinian state is to protect the Palestinian people.
“Everyone must shoulder their responsibilities and confirm their commitment to international legitimacy and law.”
The authority also stressed preserving unity among the Palestinians and avoiding internal strife.
The statement follows a meeting of the Palestinian Authority held in Ramallah and chaired by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
In conclusion, the statement affirmed that "security and peace will not be achieved unless the Palestinian people obtain their legitimate rights and unless the Israeli occupation of the land that belongs to the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, ends, and unless the refugee issue is resolved per United Nations Resolution 194."
President Abbas left Amman on Tuesday and returned to Ramallah after withdrawing from a planned summit that was scheduled Wednesday in Amman and that included, besides the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, Egypt and the United States.
President Joe Biden visited Israel on Wednesday after Jordan officially postponed the summit after coordinating with Egypt and the Palestinian Authority.
The decision to postpone the summit comes in the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike on the Baptist Hospital in Gaza that killed at least 600 people.
Israel is carrying out a brutal war against Hamas, bombarding the Gaza Strip with round-the-clock air strikes that killed almost 4,000 civilians and injured 12,065 in Gaza.
It also imposes a complete siege by depriving 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza of water, food, and electricity.
