In an official statement, UNRWA said that the guesthouse sustained significant damage due to naval strikes by Israeli forces.
Rafah, situated in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, falls within the region where Israel has insisted on Palestinian relocation.
International UN staff in Rafah had evacuated the building 90 minutes before the strike occurred. While no casualties were reported among the staff, the guesthouse suffered severe damage.
"This recent attack serves as yet another alarming reminder that no area in Gaza is secure – neither the north, nor the central regions, nor the south. The blatant disregard for safeguarding civilian infrastructure, including UN facilities, hospitals, schools, shelters, and places of worship, underscores the harrowing conditions faced by civilians in Gaza on a daily basis," stated UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.
The statement emphasized that UN buildings and facilities in Gaza currently provide refuge for nearly 780,000 displaced individuals and stressed the imperative need for their protection at all times.

"The unity of the land and the people is a non-negotiable Palestinian decision, and the aspects of spending the authority’s budget are determined by the Government of Palestine. We will share a living with our people in the beloved Strip, even if it is just one dirham,” PA official Hussein al-Sheikh said on X.
