The move is part of the country’s efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the ministry said in a statement.
Khaled Zayed, the ERC director in North Sinai, announced on Tuesday an initiative to supply 50,000 meals to Gaza daily in collaboration with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
As of 14 January, 7,000 tons of medical assistance, 50,000 tons of food, and 20,000 tons of water to Gaza entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing, said the State’s Information Service (SIS) Head Diaa Rashwan.
Rashwan added that Egypt has contributed 82 percent of the total aid delivered to Gaza, worth a total of $196 million.
Additionally, 1,000 tents and tarps, along with 11,000 tons of various relief items and 88 new ambulances have been provided. A total of 405,000 tons of fuel and household gas were also delivered.
Amid the challenging conditions imposed by the Israeli blockade and ruthless war on Gaza, the World Food Program (WFP) estimates that 2.2 million people in Gaza face crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity.
The WFP said on Tuesday that very little food assistance has made it beyond southern Gaza since the start of the Israel war on the strip and that the risk of having pockets of famine in the Palestinian enclave remained.
"It's difficult to get into the places where we need to get to in Gaza, especially in northern Gaza," said Abeer Etefa, WFP spokesperson for the Middle East.
In its latest toll, the Palestinian health ministry in Gaza said that at least 25,490 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory, including 195 fatalities in the past 24 hours, while at least 63,354 people had been wounded since the war erupted on 7 October.
