The Egyptian Ambulance Authority (EAA) has reiterated that all emergency services remain free of charge, accessible 24 hours a day through hotline 123.

In a statement on Thursday, the authority said the emergency services include providing first aid and transportation of emergency medical cases, such as traffic and adventitious accident victims and coma and cardiac arrest patients, to the nearest hospital.

The clarification came in response to reports that erroneously linked the recent price increases in EAA services to emergency and non-emergency categories.

Price hikes, which came into effect on Thursday, only apply to non-emergency services, contracts, and insurance systems, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar emphasized.

These include services like securing football matches, general assemblies, filming locations, or transporting patients leaving the hospital after recovery, Abdel-Ghaffar told Massrawy news website.

He attributed the increase in non-emergency service prices to the rise in petroleum costs, increased employee salaries, and higher equipment and maintenance expenses.

Moreover, he stressed that emergency ambulance services for patients remain entirely free, ensuring no infringement on their rights to access medical care.

According to the revised rates, non-emergency patient transportation within a governorate will cost between EGP 450 and EGP 3,775, depending on the distance.

Inter-governorate transportation will range from EGP 550 to EGP 9,100, according to media reports.

Ambulance vehicles for sports competitions will cost between EGP 1,000 and EGP 2,500 for a three-hour service, with an additional EGP 500 for each subsequent hour.

A car for General Assembly elections will cost EGP 12,500 for a 12-hour service, while cinema or television photography services and public parties will be charged EGP 49,000.

Ahram Online could not independently verify these prices.
