“The fate of the captives is contingent upon the Israeli army advancing just hundreds of metres in some of the areas under attack,” Abu Ubaida said, warning of the escalating risks Israeli military operations pose to captives held in Gaza.
He accused Israel of engaging in “genocide and ethnic cleansing” targeting civilians in northern Gaza to cover up the failures of its military. “The innocent civilians are being targeted to distract from the scandals of the Zionist army,” he said.
Last week, Israeli attacks targeted a location where Israeli captives were being held, endangering their lives, according to an earlier statement from Abu Ubaida.
He further claimed that Israel was concealing the true extent of its losses in Gaza and the poor condition of its soldiers. “The enemy hides its real losses and the dismal state of its forces in the north of the strip to maintain its army's image,” Abu Ubaida added.
Highlighting the actions of Hamas fighters, he praised their resilience in northern Gaza. “The heroism and performance of our fighters in northern Gaza inspire all the free people worldwide,” he said.
Hamas also criticized the Palestinian Authority for its actions in the West Bank, condemning the pursuit of militants. “We warn against the risks posed by the Authority’s crackdown on resistance fighters, justifying it with false claims and lies,” Hamas said.
The group also condemned the burning of the homes of wanted Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp, attributing the acts to Israeli forces.
Hamas also criticized the use of heavy weapons by security forces in the West Bank. “Weapons like rocket launchers should be in the hands of the resistance to confront the occupation, not used against our people,” the group said.
