Her remarks came during a panel discussion organized by the NCHR in collaboration with the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) on the sidelines of
Egypt's report discussion before the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
The panel discussion addressed "The State of Human Rights in Egypt from 2019 to 2024: What Has Been Achieved?"
It emphasized the continued dedication to human rights dialogue and the strategic efforts to strengthen fundamental freedoms and legal frameworks in Egypt's human rights landscape.
Additionally, the panel provided an open dialogue platform where participants exchanged views and experiences regarding strategies for promoting human rights in Egypt and globally.
The event showcases Egypt's commitment to improving human rights, presenting a report on recent progress. It also highlights the nation's dedication to international collaboration to address shared challenges and advance global human rights.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat, NCHR's head of the Civil and Political Rights Committee, elucidated Egypt's role in promoting these rights locally and internationally.
He also stressed the critical necessity of engaging with civil and political rights issues and achieving concrete advancement in public freedoms, freedom of opinion and expression, the Penal Code, and the Criminal Procedure Law.
During the panel discussion, Sarah Forti, head of the Human Rights Department at DIHR, also presented her perspective on global human rights challenges and the critical importance of collaboration between international and local organizations in advancing individual rights.
For his part, Ahmed Kamal Badr, human rights advisor at DIHR, addressed strategies to improve the effectiveness of UPR mechanisms and enhance collaboration between states and organizations.
A distinguished group of representatives from local and international non-governmental organizations, alongside representatives of foreign missions and international organizations in Geneva, attended the event.
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty is visiting Geneva to lead the Egyptian delegation during the UN Human Rights Council's UPR of Egypt’s human rights situation, scheduled for Tuesday, 28 January.
The UN Human Rights Council’s UPR working group will review Egypt’s human rights record for the fourth time. Previous reviews took place in February 2010, November 2014, and November 2019.
