In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Marmoush reflected on his journey since arriving at the reigning English champions in January in a high-profile €75 million transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt.
“Mo’s form is unbelievable, but it’s not surprising—he’s extremely professional and focused,” said Marmoush. “For us, he’s a role model. But as I always say, everyone has their own story. He’s achieved a lot. Now I’m here to create my own path, and we’ll see how it goes.”
The 26-year-old forward, who signed a four-and-a-half-year contract after a prolific Bundesliga spell with 37 goals and 20 assists in 67 appearances, is already making his mark in Manchester. Since joining, he has featured in 12 matches, scoring six goals and registering one assist—quickly becoming a fan favorite at the Etihad.
Despite comparisons with Liverpool’s Salah, Marmoush insists he is embracing the unique opportunity at City on his own terms. “It’s a dream to be here,” he said. “The pressure is there, of course, but the environment helps. Pep [Guardiola] and my teammates have supported me from day one and made me feel like part of the family.”
With Erling Haaland currently sidelined due to injury, Marmoush has been deployed across the front line—including on the left wing, as a number nine, and in attacking midfield roles. “I feel comfortable in every position as long as I’m on the pitch doing what the coach asks. I try to be dangerous with the ball and make the right decisions.”
Marmoush admitted that adapting to life in England has been easier than expected, particularly because of the language. “In Germany, I had to learn the language. Here, English is my second language, so it’s easier to connect,” he said, adding with a smile, “I also love beans on toast—with cheese!”
Looking ahead, Marmoush is clear about his goals for the season: “Our targets are to qualify for the Champions League and win the FA Cup. But in a club of this size, it’s always about trophies—trophies, trophies, trophies.”
His next big test could come as soon as Sunday, when Manchester City face arch-rivals United in the Manchester derby. With Haaland still recovering, all eyes may turn to Marmoush once again—Egypt’s new prince, writing his own story in sky blue.
