The CBE announced that bank employees will operate in outdoor locations to deliver financial services directly to the public, according to a press release on Thursday. 

The initiative includes providing services like free bank account openings with no minimum deposit, prepaid and debit card issuance, and access to mobile wallets, internet banking, and mobile banking platforms.

Arab Financial Inclusion Day is a regional initiative launched in 2016 by the Council of Arab Central Bank and Monetary Authority Governors to promote financial inclusion across Arab countries.

Celebrated annually on 27 April, the day aims to raise stakeholders' awareness of the importance of accessible financial services in achieving inclusive, sustainable economic growth and enhancing financial and economic stability.

Participating institutions will also carry out financial literacy and awareness activities for clients.

Bank personnel would be stationed in high-footfall areas such as universities, sports clubs, youth centres, and other community hubs to maximise reach.

Moreover, the CBE emphasized its strong partnerships with key institutions, most notably the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Council for Women, which it considers crucial to advancing financial inclusion.

In October 2022, the CBE launched its financial inclusion strategy for 2022-2025, which aims to make financial services more accessible to all citizens through formal channels at affordable costs.

This strategy also focuses on safeguarding citizens' rights and empowering them to manage their finances effectively.

According to the World Bank, financial inclusion refers to the ability of individuals and businesses to responsibly and sustainably access essential and affordable financial products and services, including payments, savings, credit, and insurance.

The number of financially included Egyptian citizens has grown significantly, increasing from 17.1 million in 2016 to 48.1 million in 2024.
