Earlier on Tuesday, Egypt condemned a series of drone attacks carried out by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Port Sudan, which targeted the city’s airport, seaport, and a hotel, according to Sudanese military officials.
The strikes follow an earlier RSF drone assault on Sunday that hit the Osman Digna Air Base, a goods warehouse, and other civilian sites.
In a separate statement, Egypt also condemned attacks on Kassala, describing both assaults as a serious threat to Sudan’s unity, stability, and ongoing humanitarian relief efforts.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been gripped by a brutal war between the army, led by General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF, headed by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.
The conflict has killed tens of thousands and displaced some 13 million people, 8.6 million internally and around 4 million across borders.
The army currently controls central, eastern, and northern regions, while the RSF holds large parts of Darfur and areas in the south.
