During talks in Athens on Wednesday, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said a planned electrical interconnection project with Greece would mark a “qualitative shift” in relations, enabling the transfer of clean energy from Egypt to Europe for the first time.
El-Sisi described Egypt’s partnership with Greece as a key pillar of bilateral and regional cooperation.
The Egyptian president's visit will see the launch of the Egypt–Greece High-Level Cooperation Council, which both sides said reflected growing political and economic ties.
Earlier on Wednesday, El-Sisi was received by Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas at the Presidential Palace in the Greek capital.
According to the Egyptian presidency, Tasoulas welcomed Egypt’s regional role and called for closer security and crisis management cooperation.
The Greek president also described Egypt as a strategic partner for the EU.
Talks covered the situation in Gaza, Syria, Libya, and Yemen and maritime security in the Red Sea.
Both leaders discussed ways to prevent further regional escalation and strengthen joint efforts to manage irregular migration.
The two sides also agreed to maintain close coordination on efforts to restore regional stability.
