FM Abdelatty made these remarks during a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, after the two top diplomats met in the Egyptian capital.
Abdelatty confirmed that the two sides held "open discussions" on bilateral relations and ways to address mutual concerns.
"There is a mutual desire between Egypt and Iran to enhance relations," Abdelatty said, adding that they agreed to boost trade, tourism, and continued consultations.
On his part, Minister Araghchi said that no obstacles remain in the relations between Egypt and Iran, stating that "a final hurdle will be removed in the coming weeks."
Araqchi added that while neither country has yet reinstated ambassadors, close cooperation continues.
"We're not in a hurry," he stated. "When our brothers in Egypt are ready, we will be ready."
Regional Stability
During the presser, FM Abdelatty underscored Egypt's role as a pillar of security and stability.
He cited key principles guiding this stance, including good neighbourliness, non-interference in other countries' internal politics, non-interference with other countries' unity, and support for state institutions.
He also stressed the need for joint efforts to tackle regional crises, asserting that no single country can address these challenges alone.
Abdelatty noted that the two sides discussed regional security and stability, at the heart of which lies the Palestinian conflict, and the importance of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring full access for humanitarian aid.
Minister Abdelatty agreed with Araghchi that ensuring navigational security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea is critical.
He stated this is of the "utmost importance" for all global, regional, and Red Sea countries, especially Egypt.
Abdelatty highlighted that Egypt is the nation most affected by the Red Sea escalation, adding that Cairo was among the first to support the ceasefire agreement between the United States and the Houthi group.
Nuclear Program
For his part, FM Araghchi asserted that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful, stating, "We are prepared to reassure anyone regarding this matter."
He emphasised, "We have nothing to hide, and uranium enrichment is an Iranian scientific achievement," underscoring the country's readiness to take measures to reassure the world.
“Iran will provide all necessary reassurances and demand the immediate lifting of sanctions imposed on it,” he added.
Abdelatty noted that the two sides rejected any escalation or military option in the region to avoid an extended state of chaos.
Araghchi’s visit to Cairo, which overlaps with the presence of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief, Rafael Grossi, comes just a day after a report indicated Tehran had stepped up its production of highly enriched uranium. Iranian officials swiftly dismissed the report as "politicised".
