This will be Shawqi’s first role as a head coach.

The solid defensive midfielder, who retired in 2015, previously served as assistant coach under the Pharaohs’ Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz and retained his position with successor Ihab Galal.

He also acted as assistant to Ahly’s interim coach Emad El-Nahass during the final phase of the season, helping the club secure the Egyptian League title.

Shawqi replaces Hamada Sedki, who managed ZED FC in the second half of last season.

Promoted to the top flight in the 2023/2024 season, ZED FC finished first in the relegation group with 32 points.
