During a meeting with UN Envoy to Libya Hanna Tetteh, FM Abdelatty affirmed Cairo’s support for the UN efforts to create a political process that resolves the Libyan crisis.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty emphasized the importance of respecting Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
He also called for intensified international efforts to implement relevant UN resolutions demanding the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya to restore stability.
Abdelatty further underscored the importance of unifying Libya’s executive authority on legitimate foundations that the Libyan people accept and that support UN efforts.
He also reaffirmed the necessity of supporting a Libyan-Libyan solution that achieves a national consensus without external interference or bypassing the role of Libya’s national institutions.
This consensus, based on UN Security Council resolutions and the Skhirat Agreement, will lead to the simultaneous holding of Libya's presidential and parliamentary elections, Abdelatty noted.
Abdelatty’s call follows a series of high-level meetings between President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and prominent Libyan leaders, including Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar and Speaker of the Libyan Parliament Aguila Saleh.
These talks focused on addressing Libya's security, political, and economic challenges, as well as exploring possible solutions to the ongoing crisis.
Egypt has consistently advocated for preserving Libya's security and stability, supporting a political resolution that ensures its unity and sovereignty.
