UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the 75,000-litre shipment — the first since March — falls drastically short of the hundreds of thousands of litres needed daily to keep Gaza’s critical infrastructure running.
“We and our humanitarian partners need hundreds of thousands of litres of fuel each day to keep essential life-saving and life-sustaining operations going,” he said. “The amount entered yesterday isn’t sufficient to cover even one day of energy requirement.”
He warned that without an immediate and sustained flow of fuel, vital services in Gaza — from hospitals to water systems — face imminent collapse.
Israel’s total blockade has created a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Daily attacks on aid distribution sites operated through a US- and Israeli-backed foundation have killed scores of Palestinians seeking food and assistance, while relentless bombing has displaced more than 2 million people and plunged the population into famine.
