The 23-year-old Marei becomes Ahly’s seventh signing this offseason, joining winger Ahmed Sayed “Zizo”, Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, goalkeeper Mohamed Seha, defender Ahmed Ramadan, former Aston Villa midfielder Mahmoud Trezeguet, and striker Mohamed Sherif.
Marei, a product of Zamalek’s youth teams, made 22 league appearances with Pharco last season, scoring twice and providing one assist.
Looking to strengthen their defense after a disappointing Club World Cup showing where they conceded six goals in three matches, Ahly has been busy reshuffling their backline.
They've already offloaded Rami Rabia, Yahya Attiat-Allah, Ali Maaloul, and Khaled Abdelfattah. Their first acquisition was Ramadan, signed before the World Cup, followed by Marei. Reports suggest that left-back Shoukry is also set to be unveiled in the coming hours.
