In the past fortnight, Egypt has seen a surge in temperatures, with mercury hitting or even exceeding the 40-degree Celsius mark, including in the capital, Cairo.
In response, the electricity ministry has implemented measures to ensure the grid's stability and maintain electricity supply, raising its preparedness across the entire electricity system, encompassing production, transmission, and distribution.
Electricity Ministry Mahmoud Esmat has also instructed continuous monitoring of the electricity grid at all levels, with officials from operations and maintenance sectors maintaining a constant on-site presence.
He emphasised clear communication with consumers through an integrated complaints system, directing swift responses and verification of issue resolution, while upholding quality standards and service improvement.
He noted the ministry's inspection and monitoring teams are overseeing these efforts.
In previous summers, Egypt faced repeated power shortages and rolling blackouts amid rising consumption driven by heatwaves.
A load-shedding program was even introduced in 2023 to ease strain on the country's gas network, which was affected by rising temperatures and increased air conditioning use.
However, the government has announced that, unlike the past two years, this summer will not see any electricity load shedding.
