In a statement, the Ministry of Electricity said this figure marks the highest load and maximum consumption the national electricity grid has ever recorded, according to reports from the National Energy Control Centre (NECC).
The statement clarified that the national grid's success in absorbing these unprecedented loads was due to its strict adherence to the government's plan, implemented over the past year, to improve performance levels, achieve operational efficiency, and implement maintenance programmes in accordance with international codes and quality standards.
This was evident in its ability to handle the significant increase in consumption over the past few days, culminating on Sunday, it added.
The NECC reports indicated that the daily increases in electricity consumption and the rising loads are unprecedented for this time of the year.
In 2024, the highest load recorded was 38,000 MW. This occurred in only one day due to an intense heatwave.
The ministry emphasized its commitment to monitor the electrical grid precisely.
It also stressed the importance of company leaders and operations and maintenance officials to remain vigilant, as well as maintaining open communication with subscribers through an integrated complaints system for reporting issues. This system should facilitate rapid response, follow-up, and verification of complaint resolution.
This comes as the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a warning of an ongoing heatwave affecting most parts of the country from Saturday, 26 July, through Thursday, 31 July.
The heatwave peaked on Sunday and Monday, particularly in northern regions including Cairo, with real-feel temperatures expected to range between 43°C and 45°C.
However, a slight relief is forecast to begin on Wednesday, 30 July, with Cairo and the Delta expected to see the first signs of improvement.
Last week, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi affirmed that his ministry is implementing a plan to sustainably supply natural gas to the local market, particularly for the electricity and industrial sectors.
