Under the decree, set to take effect starting October, tour guides will receive EGP 1,800 for a full eight-hour workday, and EGP 1,100 for a half-day covering four consecutive hours.
The move is part of broader efforts to support tourism professionals and reflect Egypt’s growing stature as a premier global destination, according to a tourism ministry statement.
“This fee increase is part of the ministry’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the human element of the tourism sector and ensuring fair labour practices,” said Fathy.
He highlighted the tour guides’ important role in shaping the visitor experience, noting that improving their conditions directly impacts service quality and Egypt’s international touristic image.”
Samia Sami, Assistant to the Minister for Tourist Agencies, noted that the last adjustment to tour guide fees took place in 2023, when rates stood at EGP 1,000 for a full day and EGP 600 for a half-day.
“This update reflects both the economic realities and the invaluable role tour guides play in promoting Egypt’s heritage and tourism offerings,” Sami said. “Their work is vital in enhancing the visitor journey and increasing the appeal of Egypt as a tourist destination.”
The decision was made in coordination with the General Syndicate of Tourist Guides and the Chamber of Travel and Tourism Companies.
The tourism ministry will issue an official directive to all tour operators and agencies, requiring compliance with the new minimum fee structure.
Companies failing to adhere to these rates may face penalties, sources told Ahram Online.
