According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty used the calls to press for an immediate ceasefire, expanded humanitarian access, and wider recognition of Palestinian statehood.
Talks with France
In a call with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Abdelatty urged stronger European pressure to secure a Gaza ceasefire and condemned Israel’s settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank as a “blatant violation of international law.”
He also denounced recent calls by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a “Greater Israel,” warning they fuel extremism and regional instability. Abdelatty praised France’s declaration of intent to recognize a Palestinian state, urging further Western recognition ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September.
The two ministers discussed Egypt’s role in facilitating humanitarian aid into Gaza and addressed broader regional issues, including de-escalation around the Iranian nuclear file and the resumption of negotiations between Tehran, Washington, and the E3 group.
Paris expressed appreciation for Cairo’s efforts.
Talks with the UK
Abdelatty told British Foreign Secretary David Lammy that Israel’s “irresponsible policies” and brutal aggression in Gaza threaten to widen regional conflict and obstruct ceasefire efforts.
He welcomed London’s stated willingness to recognize Palestine during the upcoming UNGA, stressing that such steps were vital for stability.
He also reviewed preparations for an international conference in Egypt on Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction once a ceasefire is in place.
Lammy reaffirmed the UK’s support for Cairo’s mediation and bilateral cooperation, which Abdelatty described as progressing toward a “strategic partnership.”
Talks with Germany
In his call with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Abdelatty warned that Israel's genocidal policies in Gaza and settlement activity in the West Bank undermine de-escalation prospects, highlighting the need for the European Union (EU) to take action.
He praised Berlin’s decision to suspend certain arms exports to Israel as “a step in the right direction.”
In turn, Wadephul commended Egypt’s efforts to restore a ceasefire.
Both sides discussed the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, with Abdelatty stressing Israel’s responsibility as the occupying power to open crossings and end “starvation policies” against civilians.
They also exchanged views on reducing regional tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme.
