The Ministry of Transport said the initiative is not just a standard training programme but a strategic national project aimed at producing a new generation of responsible, skilled, and safety-conscious drivers.
"The programme will boost road safety, cut accident rates, and improve efficiency across Egypt’s land transport sector," the Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport, responsible for the execution of the initiative, said.
The company added that top-performing graduates will be offered positions within companies affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, providing them with rewarding job opportunities while ensuring the sector benefits from highly qualified talent.
These companies include the Upper Egypt Transport and Tourism Company (EGBUS), West and Middle Delta Bus Company for Transport and Tourism, East Delta Bus Company for Transport and Tourism, Arab Union for Land Transport (SuperJet), ACTA Mass Transport Company, Egyptian BRT Bus Company, Capital Taxi Company, and Nile Cargo Transport Company.
The final day of the first batch’s training featured on-the-ground practice on safe driving, in the presence of a group of traffic experts and specialized trainers.
The programme, announced on 28 July, included comprehensive theoretical and practical training on the latest professional driving techniques, traffic rules and signals, handling emergencies, preventive vehicle maintenance, addressing minor breakdowns, and behavioural and psychological awareness to enhance discipline and professional commitment among drivers.
Trainees who completed the programme were awarded accredited certificates.
A ministry statement highlighted the strong interest in the initiative since its launch, with over 700 drivers applying to participate.
Applicants were classified according to their license categories (first, second, and third class).
The first phase began with first-class license holders, with 250 drivers selected and divided into 10 groups to ensure training quality and adequate follow-up and evaluation.
The Holding Company clarified that the training programme is conducted according to a modern scientific methodology, using state-of-the-art training tools, under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Transport.
The initiative comes as part of the state’s vision to enhance human capital as the primary driver of development.
The courses will continue to include second and third-class license holders, ensuring that all targeted categories are covered in the training plan.
The company also announced that after the completion of the current programme, new rounds will be opened for drivers who wish to develop their skills further and benefit from excellent job opportunities through joining the initiative.
The programme is entirely free of charge and is considered one of the most important national initiatives that place people first, prioritizing road safety and the protection of lives and property.
The programme comes amid renewed national focus on road safety following the 27 June Regional Ring Road tragedy, where 18 girls and young women from Kafr El Sanabisah, aged between 14 and 23, lost their lives when their microbus collided with a heavy truck on their way to work.
The highway, constructed between 2012 and 2018, has seen a sharp rise in freight movement and a series of deadly crashes in recent weeks, pushing authorities to place safety at the top of the agenda.
On 16 July, the Transport Ministry announced that a significant stretch of the road will remain closed until 1 August to carry out urgent safety enhancements.
