President El-Sisi made his remarks during a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the presidential palace in Cairo, marking the Lebanese leader’s first official visit to Egypt since taking office in February.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, and the ambassadors of both countries attended the talks, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said.
During the meeting, El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing communications with international and regional powers to push for Israel’s complete withdrawal from southern Lebanon and urge the global community to support Lebanon’s state institutions — especially the army — so that they can fulfil their national responsibilities.
According to El-Shennawy, President El-Sisi praised the positive steps taken by the Lebanese government over the past months to empower state institutions and extend state authority over all Lebanese territories.
The president also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to supporting Lebanon’s efforts to restore stability, achieve economic recovery, and advance reconstruction.
Moreover, he encouraged Lebanon to continue exerting every possible effort to restore its security and national unity.
For his part, PM Salam expressed his gratitude to President El-Sisi and the Egyptian people for their enduring support of Lebanon, which he said reflects the historic and close ties between the two nations.
The Lebanese premier also outlined his government’s priorities for the coming phase, including strengthening cooperation and integration with Arab states, with Egypt at the forefront.
Salam further highlighted the ongoing preparations for the 10th session of the Egypt-Lebanon Joint Higher Committee, scheduled to be held in Cairo later this year, as a key opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional developments, especially the situation in Gaza.
In this respect, they called for urgent efforts to halt the ongoing escalation and alleviate the suffering of Palestinians under the strip's catastrophic humanitarian conditions.
Both leaders also emphasized the importance of pursuing peaceful political solutions to other regional conflicts, with a focus on respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the affected states.
Additionally, they agreed to maintain close consultation and coordination between Egypt and Lebanon to serve the common interests of both peoples and reinforce regional peace and stability.
