Ibrahim Hassan said that the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has contacted the 23-year-old about joining the Pharaohs’ training camp in October.
Hassan, who is of Egyptian, Tunisian and French descent, welcomed the invitation and has started securing the required paperwork to finalise his eligibility.
Born in France to an Egyptian father and a Tunisian mother, Hassan remains eligible to represent any of the three national teams, having previously played for France at youth level.
The winger launched his professional career with French side Chateauroux in 2018, aged 16, providing two assists in 19 games before moving to Villarreal in 2020.
Initially placed in Villarreal’s reserves in the Segunda Division B, he scored two goals and provided two assists in 51 appearances before loan spells at Mirandes and Sporting Gijon.
In August 2024, Hassan signed a three-year deal with Real Oviedo in Spain’s second division. Since joining, he has featured in 47 matches, scoring four goals and delivering four assists.
Tunisia’s national team earlier confirmed that they had approached Hassan about playing for the Carthage Eagles but the player has indicated that he is leaning towards representing Egypt.
Helmi Toulan, head coach of Egypt’s home-based national team, also contacted Hassan to feature in the Arab Cup. However, the forward declined, expressing his preference to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations.
