Core inflation, which strips out volatile items such as food and energy, is used to gauge underlying price pressures.
On a monthly basis, core CPI rose 0.1 percent in August, compared with a 0.3 percent fall in July and a 0.9 percent increase in August 2024.
Figures released separately by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed annual urban headline inflation also slowed, dropping to 12 percent in August from 13.9 percent in July.
Monthly headline inflation stood at 0.4 percent, reversing a 0.5 percent decline in July and far below the 2.1 percent rise recorded in August last year.
