Speaking at his weekly press conference after the cabinet meeting in the New Administrative Capital, Madbouly said electricity pricing was being studied within a “comprehensive and balanced framework” that takes into account both citizens’ welfare and market stability.
He noted that any potential hikes could affect inflation, but stressed the government was offsetting subsidies for electricity through other channels.
Madbouly added that the government was committed to maintaining service quality while keeping prices under control in a way that supports the national economy.
Egypt last raised electricity tariffs in August 2024, when households with prepaid meters faced increases of 14–40 percent, commercial users 23.5–46 percent, and industry 21.2–31 percent.
The government has a long-term plan to phase out subsidies as part of its economic reform programme.
