In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit is meant to convey Egypt’s full support for Qatar following the Israeli attack.
Abdelatty is also expected to discuss ways to respond to what Cairo called a “dangerous development” and explore closer coordination between the two countries, the statement added.
Israel’s airstrike on the Qatari capital on Tuesday, which targeted senior Hamas leaders, has triggered a wave of international condemnation and raised fears of wider regional escalation.
The attack, the first known Israeli strike on Qatari soil, killed at least six people, including a Qatari security officer and Humam Al-Hayya, the son of senior Hamas figure Khalil Al-Hayya.
Qatar denounced the strike as a “cowardly Israeli assault” and a violation of its sovereignty and international law, accusing Israel of sabotaging mediation efforts.
Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and other Gulf states voiced solidarity with Qatar and warned that the strike set a dangerous precedent for the region.
The Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the attack, calling it a direct threat to Arab security.
Turkey also condemned the strike, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan calling it an act of “state terrorism.”
China expressed concern, saying the strike violated sovereignty and risked further escalation.
Russia called it a “gross violation” of the UN Charter and warned that it threatened regional stability.
The UN secretary-general criticized the attack as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Western governments also expressed concern, with US officials saying the attack “does not advance our goals” and undermines efforts to reach a ceasefire.
