The 27-year-old made history a day earlier by qualifying for the final with a 6.60 metres jump, becoming the first Egyptian ever to reach the event’s final at the World Championships.
Awis recorded 6.37 metres in the final, while the US’s Tara Davis-Woodhall led the field with 7.13 metres.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s renowned sprinter Bassant Hemida will compete in the women’s 400 metres semi-finals on Tuesday after finishing third in her heat on Saturday.
The biennial championships run until 21 September, featuring over 1,800 athletes from around the world.
