Ashour was diagnosed with hepatitis A after being transferred to hospital following Ahly’s 1-1 draw with Enppi in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.
The 26-year-old had only just returned from a three-month layoff with a clavicle fracture sustained during the FIFA Club World Cup.
"Ashour is in a stable condition," the club’s medical team said
Recovery from hepatitis A typically requires two to four weeks of rest, depending on the case.
Winger Zizo, meanwhile, suffered a groin strain and was forced off after 25 minutes in the same match.
The injuries add to Ahly’s woes as the reigning champions struggle to find form domestically.
The Red Devils have won just once in five matches and sit 15th in the league table with nine points, four adrift of leaders Zamalek, who have played one game more.
Both Ashour and Zizo are expected to miss the Cairo derby against Zamalek on Sept. 29.
Ahly face Ceramica Cleopatra at Cairo Stadium on Friday.
