Egypt urges continued int'l backing for Sinai multinational force

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has stressed the necessity to maintain international support for the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in Sinai.

Minister Abdelatty made his remarks during a meeting in Cairo on Monday with Elizabeth Dibble, Director-General of the MFO.

He highlighted the crucial role played by the MFO in Sinai for more than four decades since the signing of the Egyptian–Israeli Peace Treaty.

He described the MFO as a cornerstone of peace and stability in the region, according to a foreign ministry statement.

The country’s top diplomat praised the ongoing coordination between the MFO and Egyptian authorities, commending the contributions of member states.

He noted that such contributions reflect strong international backing for the mission and its vital role, the statement added.

For her part, Dibble expressed appreciation for the excellent cooperation between the MFO and the Egyptian side, as well as for the full support and facilitation provided by Egyptian authorities to the force.
