According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi made the remarks during talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, attended by regional and world leaders.

El-Sisi underlined the importance of ensuring the entry of the largest possible amount of humanitarian aid into Gaza, noting Egypt’s continued role in facilitating assistance.

The president said Egypt’s foreign policy remains guided by “balance, positivity, and a commitment to de-escalation,” adding that Cairo and Berlin maintain close coordination on regional crises, including in Syria, Sudan, and Libya.

He also praised Germany’s support for Egypt within the European Union (EU) framework and said he looked forward to the upcoming Egypt–EU Summit in Brussels on 22 October.

El-Sisi invited Merz to pay an official visit to Cairo, an invitation the German chancellor accepted.

Merz, for his part, thanked El-Sisi for his efforts that helped bring about the ceasefire in Gaza, saying the truce “would not have been possible without Egypt’s mediation.”

He expressed hope that the calm would hold and reiterated Germany’s readiness to contribute to Gaza’s reconstruction.

Merz also thanked El-Sisi for inviting him to the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, describing their meeting as “the start of a new phase” in bilateral relations.

On Friday, the German chancellor announced that his country plans to co-host with Egypt an international conference on rebuilding the Gaza Strip.
