El-Sisi urges better welfare for imams, efficient investment of endowment assets
During a meeting on Monday with Minister of Endowments Osama El-Azhary, the president reviewed key issues related to the ministry’s work.
These include the modernization of religious discourse, the promotion of social cohesion, and the better use of the country’s endowment resources.
According to Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, President El-Sisi stressed the need to continue Egypt’s long-term efforts to protect society from extremist ideologies and promote genuine Islamic values based on tolerance, moderation, and national identity.
He directed the expansion of programmes to improve the welfare and professional skills of imams and preachers through advanced training and qualification initiatives.
The president also emphasized the importance of confronting all forms of religious extremism and addressing behaviours that harm Egypt’s social fabric, noting that enlightened religious leadership plays a key role in strengthening national identity and moral values.
Moreover, the meeting discussed the ministry’s awareness initiative “Correct Your Concepts,” a main pillar of its strategy to promote responsible and informed religious and social awareness.
Minister El-Azhary briefed the president on the ministry’s latest steps under the initiative, including the launch of the Child Education Programme for 2025-2026, which engages 20,880 mosques nationwide.
The programme aims to instil strong moral, religious, and national values in children, foster an understanding of moderation, and help build balanced and confident Egyptian personalities rooted in faith.
President El-Sisi stressed the importance of providing young generations with accurate religious knowledge and cultivating in them the principles of moderation and belonging, viewing these as essential pillars for building a cohesive, confident, and resilient society.
The president also reviewed the Endowments Authority’s asset development plan, which includes identifying and investing in promising opportunities to improve the management and utilization of its extensive property and asset portfolio.
