"The ceasefire and its stabilization depend on two parties: the Israeli side and the Palestinian side ... if Israel is committed to the ceasefire, the Palestinian factions will be as well," affirmed Al-Nakhala in an interview with Al-Qahera News that was aired on Friday.
Al-Nakhala, who leads the second-largest Palestinian resistance group, confirmed that ongoing meetings in Cairo between Palestinian factions and Major General Hassan Rashad, the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, in Cairo have produced "clear and specific understandings" on stabilizing the US-backed ceasefire plan, paving the way for crucial next steps like opening crossings for aid, and initiating reconstruction of the strip.
He stated that the central point of agreement is a fixed commitment to "halting the war and stopping the aggression against the Palestinian people."
In the interview, Al-Nakhala expressed his gratitude for the significant Arab diplomatic efforts to end the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza.
"I cannot let this moment pass without thanking our brothers in Egypt for the great efforts that were made, and also our brothers in Qatar, and all the efforts in general that were made to stop the war and the aggression on the Gaza Strip and on the Palestinian people."
He stressed that Cairo has been playing a primary role in ensuring a permanent ceasfire and securing the adherence of all parties involved.
Al-Nakhala added that the subsequent phases of the ceasefire agreement, reached in Sharm El-Sheikh earlier in October, involve critical humanitarian steps, including opening crossings, ensuring the entry of aid to the population, and initiating programs for the reconstruction of Gaza.
Beyond the immediate goal of a ceasefire, Al-Nakhala emphasized that the discussions in Cairo are also laying the groundwork for broader efforts to reunify the Palestinian national front.
He said that national unity is a necessity for all factions, stating that the Palestinian people "need national unity, understandings, and a solution to the pending problems."
"Uniting the various Palestinian forces is essential," he argued, "so they can bear their responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and effectively confronting Israeli projects such as settlement expansion, the occupation of the West Bank, and the challenges in the Gaza Strip created by the Israeli war."
