In an interview with Al Jazeera, Al-Hayya added that “the people are one and want one authority and one government.”
He confirmed that Hamas accepts the deployment of international forces as border and ceasefire monitors in Gaza.
Al-Hayya said US President Donald Trump has declared the war over and that Washington’s subsequent statements affirm this position. He stressed that Hamas “will not give Israel a pretext to resume the war,” noting that the group handed over 20 Israeli captives and returned the bodies of 17 Israeli soldiers within 72 hours of the ceasefire taking effect.
The Hamas leader said he told US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner that the movement “seeks stability,” adding that Trump “has the ability to restrain the Israeli occupation.”
Regarding Hamas’s weapons, Al-Hayya said they are linked to “the existence of occupation and aggression,” adding, “Once the occupation ends, these weapons will belong to the state.” He noted that the issue “remains under discussion with factions and mediators” and that “the agreement is still in its early stages.”
“Hamas will not take a position outside the framework of the agreed national stance,” he said.
Al-Hayya described the Palestinian prisoner issue as “a purely national cause,” saying Israel refused to release several names proposed in the exchange deal, but that efforts to resolve the matter continue.
On the humanitarian front, al-Hayya said Gaza needs “6,000 aid trucks daily, not 600,” accusing Israel of obstructing the entry of supplies “as if we were still in the middle of war.”
“The humanitarian issue deeply troubles us,” he said. “Violations are worrying people and threatening the stability of the agreement.”
He also warned that the occupied West Bank remains under the grip of settlements, saying, “We are in urgent need of reorganizing our national priorities.”
