Cairo giants Ahly are reportedly in advanced talks to sign GAIS’ Ivorian forward Ibrahim Diabate as they look to bolster their frontline during the winter transfer window.

The 25-year-old impressed with Swedish side GAIS last season, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

A production of ASEC Mimosas’ youth academy, Diabate joined the B team of Spanish club Mallorca in 2018 and spent loan spells with Sevilla and Atlético Madrid’s reserve sides.

He later joined Swedish club Västerås SK on a free transfer in 2023, scoring three goals in 24 matches, before moving to GAIS in January 2025 on a deal running until December 2028.

Ahly are seeking a prolific striker to replace Palestinian forward Wessam Abou Ali, who left the club last summer.

The team has struggled in attack since his departure, with Slovenian striker Nejc Gradisar and summer signing Mohamed Sherif unable to fill the gap.

Ahly currently sit second in the Egyptian Premier League on 23 points, three behind leaders Ceramica Cleopatra.
