Egyptian Foreign Ministry Headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
The foreign ministry said it had been alerted through social media posts about Egyptians trapped on an island in the Evros River, which separates the two countries.
In coordination with the Egyptian embassies in Ankara and Athens, as well as Turkish authorities, the ministry confirmed the citizens’ location and facilitated their transfer to Turkish territory.
According to the statement, the rescue followed swift efforts by the ministry’s crisis management unit and consular affairs sector, which worked with Turkish officials to ensure the citizens’ safety and prevent further risk.
The ministry urged Egyptians abroad to refrain from engaging with human smuggling networks or attempting irregular migration routes, warning that such journeys often involve grave dangers and financial exploitation by criminal groups.
It stressed that irregular migration poses severe risks and has led to repeated tragedies in several European border regions.
The foreign ministry also reiterated the importance of complying with residency laws in European countries and neighbouring states, emphasizing the need for Egyptians overseas to avoid unsafe travel routes and disregard false promises made by smuggling networks.
