The update included detailed reports on the 12 pumping stations along the system. El-Sisi instructed that continue according to the approved timelines and stressed the need to advance the national project to regulate the Nile and remove all encroachments along the river, the presidency stated.
The briefing took place during a meeting with Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam; Presidential Adviser for Urban Planning Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed; Chairman of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Walid Mohamed Aref; and Executive Director of Egypt’s Future Authority for Sustainable Development Colonel Dr Bahaa El-Ghannam.
Presidential spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting reviewed the latest developments of the New Delta Project and efforts to maximise and improve the efficiency of Egypt’s water resources to support agricultural production. The discussions also covered the status of the northern irrigation water source supplying the New Delta.
El-Sisi emphasized the need for close monitoring of all developments related to major agricultural projects, particularly the New Delta, and called for stronger coordination between the government and the Future of Egypt Authority. He said these efforts are essential for reinforcing the agricultural production sector and securing the country’s supply of strategic food crops.
The president also highlighted the importance of expanding private-sector participation in agricultural infrastructure to accelerate progress across these projects.
El-Shennawy added that El-Ghannam presented plans to launch new projects within the agricultural development system, including the reclamation of land in the Kufra area and along the Dakhla–Owaynat route, expected to be offered early next year.
He also outlined feasibility studies for an agricultural project in Senegal and several other initiatives under consideration in African countries.
