Ahly squad headed to Morocco on Wednesday for the anticipated game against FAR Rabat CAF Champions League group stage on Friday, but skipper Mohamed El-Shenawy and winger Ahmed Abdel-Kader were excluded due to injury.

El-Shenawy, 36, was forced to leave the pitch in the 79th minute of Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Algeria’s JS Kabylie in the opening match of the prestigious continental tournament group stage due to muscle issues. Scans later revealed that El-Shenawy is suffering from an adductor muscle strain.

Meanwhile, the 26-year old Abdel-Kader is complaining from a partial hamstring tear; an injury that sidelined him also against JS Kabylie.

In good news, left-back Mohamed Shokry, who also missed Saturday’s game due to a calf injury, has recovered and was included in the travelling squad.

After Saturday’s win over JS Kabylie, Ahly now lead Group B on goal difference over Tanzanian side Young Africans, who earlier defeated Morocco’s FAR Rabat 1-0.

The Cairo giants are chasing a record-extending 13th title following their elimination from last edition’s semi-final after losing to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
