Abdelatty made these remarks in a speech he delivered as a participant in the 10th UfM Regional Forum in Barcelona, Spain.
During his speech, the Egyptian FM highlighted that the forum is a crucial regional platform for enhancing balanced cooperation and partnership between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
He emphasized that the 10th edition of the forum coincides with critical regional developments and amidst economic, environmental, and security challenges.
The Egyptian FM asserted that Egypt strongly believes that collective work is crucial for turning challenges into opportunities for development and stability.
He affirmed that Egypt remains committed to various European-Mediterranean mechanisms, especially the UfM regional transport action plan. He noted that, in accordance with the plan, Egypt enhanced its port capacities, upgraded its railway networks, and established advanced logistics platforms that incorporate digitization and green technologies.
Moreover, Abdelatty emphasized that the Palestinian cause remains at the core of all conflicts in the region. He called upon the international community to assume its responsibilities in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He also insisted on ensuring that the Palestinians in Gaza have unhindered access to aid in accordance with US President Donald Trump’s plan.
Furthermore, the Egyptian FM highlighted Egypt’s efforts to provide Gaza with humanitarian aid, mitigate the crisis facing the population, and reopen the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing for injured Palestinians to receive treatment in Egypt and return afterward.
He also reviewed Cairo’s efforts to stabilize the ceasefire in Gaza and coordinate with key regional and international parties to ensure the implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement.
Moreover, he emphasized the deployment of international forces in Gaza to monitor the ceasefire. These forces, he added, should also facilitate aid flow and create conditions for reconstruction.
In addition, Abdelatty confirmed Egypt’s preparations for hosting the early recovery and reconstruction conference. The conference, he noted, will be held in coordination with the Palestinian Authority, the UN Development Program (UNDP), and the World Bank.
Turning to the West Bank, Abdelatty warned that Israel’s continued escalation and expansion of settlement activities in the West Bank constitute a flagrant violation of international legitimacy resolutions.
He emphasized Egypt’s rejection of any attempts to divide Gaza, noting that preserving the unity of Palestinian territory was crucial for establishing an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty also participated in the ministerial meeting for launching the Mediterranean Charter to enhance integration and Euro-Mediterranean cooperation. Several UfM foreign ministers attended the meeting.
The foreign ministry further stated that Abdelatty held separate meetings with Palestinian State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian, Spanish FM José Manuel Albares, Croatian FM Gordan Grlić-Radman, Bosnian FM Elmedin Konaković, and President of the Anna Lindh Foundation Princess Rym Ali.
