As part of the final day of his visit to the German capital, Abdelatty met with members of the German-Egyptian Parliamentary Friendship Group.
He praised the “distinct and steadily advancing” ties between Cairo and Berlin across political, economic, investment, and development fields, stressing Egypt’s interest in expanding all forms of cooperation, including parliamentary engagement, which he described as “a key pillar for strengthening partnership and enhancing people-to-people ties.”
The foreign minister underscored Egypt’s commitment to parliamentary diplomacy as a vital channel for cooperation with legislatures worldwide, and expressed appreciation for the friendship group’s role in advancing economic, trade, and investment links.
He highlighted Egypt’s recent economic reforms, major infrastructure development, and efforts to create a more competitive investment climate, noting Cairo’s appreciation for recent parliamentary exchanges, including the visit of German MP Alexander Radwan.
Abdelatty also briefed the German MPs on the latest developments in Gaza, reiterating Egypt’s long-standing support for the Palestinian people and for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital—“the only path to a just and lasting peace,” he said.
He stressed the need to consolidate the ceasefire, implement United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2803, deploy an International Stabilization Force (ISF) in the strip, and ensure unhindered humanitarian, relief, and medical access.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s belief in peaceful political solutions to regional crises, respect for state sovereignty and national institutions, and cooperation with regional and international partners to support stability across the Middle East.
Abdelatty later met Armin Laschet, Chair of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, expressing appreciation for the committee’s role in strengthening bilateral ties and saying Egypt looks forward to revitalizing cooperation with the Bundestag once the electoral process concludes.
He briefed Laschet on Egypt’s positions on regional crises, reiterated Cairo’s support for the Palestinian cause, and outlined Egypt’s diplomatic efforts over the past two years leading to the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement. He again stressed the need to stabilize the ceasefire, implement UNSC Resolution 2803, uphold the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees' (UNRWA) central role, and maintain its funding.
In a separate meeting with members of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Abdelatty highlighted the current momentum in bilateral relations and praised Germany’s support for development projects in Egypt.
He said Cairo hopes to see increased German investment, citing structural reforms that have improved the business and investment climate.
Talks also covered regional issues, including Sudan, where Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the country’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.
He outlined Egypt’s efforts within the regional quartet mechanism to support a ceasefire and prepare conditions for a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan’s territorial integrity. He called for greater regional and international cooperation to secure safe humanitarian corridors and support Sudanese institutions.
On water security, the minister reiterated adherence to international law governing shared water resources, calling for cooperation based on consensus and mutual benefit among Nile Basin states. He reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of unilateral measures in the Eastern Nile and said Cairo will take all actions permitted under international law to protect its vital water interests.
A wide-ranging discussion with committee members reflected the depth of Egyptian-German ties and an exchange of views on key geopolitical challenges.
Concluding his visit, Abdelatty met with Julia Klöckner, President of the German Bundestag, highlighting the depth of bilateral relations and stressing the importance of revitalizing parliamentary cooperation as a driver of closer ties.
