Egyptian weightlifter Neama Said won a silver medal
Said, 21, had announced her retirement from competitive weightlifting following the conclusion of her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Sobhy held a meeting with Said, attended by her brother and senior ministry officials, within the framework of the state’s plan to support Olympic athletes and ensure early readiness for the next Olympic cycle.
The minister directed officials to remove obstacles that the athlete had faced in the previous period and ordered a comprehensive medical examination in coordination with the Supreme Committee for Athletes’ Care, as she rejoins the National Project for Talent and Olympic Champions.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Said finished ninth in the women’s 71kg weightlifting category.
She lifted 97kg in the snatch but failed to improve her total after two unsuccessful attempts at 101kg and 102kg. In the clean and jerk, she successfully lifted 120kg in her first attempt and increased it to 125kg in her second, opting not to attempt a third lift.
