The runoffs will determine 35 seats in the 2025 House of Representatives, with 70 candidates competing across seven governorates. Voting is taking place inside Egypt on 27 and 28 December, following overseas voting on 24 and 25 December. Final results are scheduled to be announced on 4 January.
The first round of voting in the annulled constituencies was held abroad on 1 and 2 December and domestically on 3 and 4 December, before the results were invalidated.
According to the National Elections Authority (NEA), around 35 million eligible voters were registered to vote in the first phase of the elections, which covered 14 governorates: Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, New Valley, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea, Alexandria, Beheira, and Matrouh.
The current House of Representatives was elected in late 2020 for a five-year term ending in January 2026. Under Egypt’s constitution, elections for a new parliament must be held within 60 days before the expiration of the current chamber’s mandate.
