Al-Azhar warns against Israel exploiting Gaza suffering for forced displacement

Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism warned on Thursday against attempts by the Israeli occupation forces to exploit the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip to facilitate the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.

In a statement, the observatory said despite the ceasefire agreement that entered into force on 11 October 2025, conditions on the ground in Gaza continue to deteriorate amid repeated Israeli violations.

The observatory said April alone witnessed 377 transgressions by the Israeli occupation forces, resulting in the deaths of 111 Palestinians and injuries to 376 others.

It added that the violations included artillery shelling and the systematic destruction of residential blocks, making the final week of April “the bloodiest and most turbulent,” according to UN reports.

Citing UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, the statement said humanitarian conditions had sharply worsened after aid warehouses and relief vehicles belonging to the international organization came under direct attacks and airstrikes.

The observatory also highlighted what it described as a "major gap" between the terms of the ceasefire agreement and implementation on the ground. It said only 4,503 aid trucks out of a planned 18,000 had entered Gaza, and just 187 fuel trucks out of 1,500 were allowed in, threatening hospitals and water facilities with shutdowns.

It added that only 1,567 Palestinians were able to leave Gaza out of 6,000 people who were scheduled to travel.

The observatory stated that the war and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which have killed more than 70,000 people, have contributed to a “silent displacement,” citing Hebrew-language media reports claiming that around 44,000 Palestinians had left Gaza due to collapsing living conditions.

The statement stressed that Egypt maintains a firm position rejecting any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians or transfer the crisis to neighbouring countries.

The observatory called on the international community to closely monitor mechanisms governing Palestinians’ departure from Gaza and ensure that medical treatment or educational travel are not used as pretexts for permanently removing residents from the territory.
