Egypt, Qatar foreign ministers discuss regional de-escalation efforts

Egypt’s Foreign Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Saturday with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to discuss ongoing efforts aimed at reducing regional escalation.

According to a statement, the two sides reviewed rapidly evolving regional developments and coordinated efforts to de-escalate tensions across the region. During the call, Abdelatty listened to an assessment from his Qatari counterpart regarding the outcomes of his recent visit to Washington, including meetings and discussions with senior US officials.

The two ministers also discussed the latest developments in the US-Iran negotiation track, stressing the importance of supporting diplomatic efforts and dialogue as the only viable path to addressing the current crisis.

Both sides reiterated the need for all relevant actors to adopt responsible and measured positions during this sensitive period, and to fully rely on diplomatic solutions to settle disputes. They also underlined that sustaining regional security and stability depends primarily on prioritising political solutions that safeguard the interests and resources of regional populations.
