Videos circulating online showed Macron running along Khaled Ibn Al-Walid Street toward Al-Essawy Street in Alexandria without road closures or heightened visible restrictions, as traffic and pedestrians moved normally around him.

The footage quickly spread across Egyptian social media platforms under the slogan “The Country of Security and Safety,” with several public figures describing the scene as positive publicity for Egypt.

Television host Ahmed Moussa said in a post on X that Macron had chosen “the crowded streets of Alexandria” for his morning run, noting that “cars and tuk-tuks were moving normally and no roads were closed.”

“People were surprised to find Egypt’s distinguished guest running among them,” Moussa wrote, adding that the French president was giving Egypt “publicity worth millions of dollars.”

Parliamentary and media personality Mostafa Bakry also shared footage of Macron jogging in Alexandria, writing on X, “This is Egypt—safe and stable thanks to its leadership and its people.”

Macron has frequently been seen jogging during foreign visits, including a recent appearance running through the streets of Yerevan during an official trip to Armenia.

The French president is currently visiting Egypt, where he attended, alongside President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the inauguration of the new headquarters of Senghor University in New Borg El-Arab City, west of Alexandria.

The visit comes amid deepening ties between Cairo and Paris, following the two countries' elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership during Macron’s April 2025 visit to Egypt.

On Saturday evening, El-Sisi and Macron toured several landmarks in Alexandria along with the heads of delegations participating in the Senghor University inauguration ceremony.

The tour included Alexandria’s Corniche promenade and the historic Qaitbay Citadel, where the two presidents received a briefing on the fortress’s history and ongoing underwater archaeological excavations linked to the remains of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria.

The presentation was delivered by Mohamed El-Sayed, senior inspector at Egypt’s General Administration of Underwater Antiquities, and Thomas Foucher, head of the Alexandria Studies Centre affiliated with the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

Following the tour, El-Sisi hosted a dinner banquet in honour of Macron, which was attended by the accompanying French delegation and visiting officials attending the university inauguration.

During the dinner, El-Sisi praised the rapid development of Egyptian-French relations and expressed Egypt’s desire to expand cooperation in culture, tourism, and antiquities.

Macron, in turn, described Alexandria as “a global beacon of science and culture” and reaffirmed France’s commitment to strengthening cultural ties with Egypt.
