An Egyptian medical mission has begun a week-long visit to Kenya as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare cooperation between Egypt and African nations, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) announced on Sunday.

`

The mission, coordinated by the EAPD, will perform surgeries for Kenyan patients at Kenyatta National Hospital and provide medical training and expertise transfer to local healthcare professionals.

The Egyptian delegation includes five specialists in urology, gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery, and cardiac surgery.

Among the participating doctors are Sherif Mourad, professor of urology at Ain Shams University; Gamal Sami, professor of cardiovascular surgery at Ain Shams University; El-Tayeb Nasser El-Tayeb, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Helwan University; Ashraf Amin, professor of gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy at Ain Shams University; and Mohamed Kotb, assistant professor of urology at Ain Shams University.

Egypt’s Ambassador to Nairobi, Hatem Yousry, said the mission reflects Cairo’s commitment to strengthening ties with Kenya in priority sectors that directly benefit Kenyan citizens.

He added that the initiative forms part of Egypt’s broader efforts to support African countries, particularly Nile Basin states, through the transfer of Egyptian expertise and capacity-building programmes led by the foreign ministry.

The EAPD plays a key role in supporting healthcare sectors across Africa and other partner developing countries as part of Egypt’s policy of promoting South-South cooperation and sharing expertise in vital development fields, particularly healthcare.
